Yuki Sakuma
SYC Level 2 Authorised Ashtanga yoga practitioner/teacher
I am from Japan and have been living in Utrecht since 2017.
My yoga journey began when I was an undergraduate student in Japan, and it was in my mid-20s when I discovered Ashtanga yoga and committed to a daily practice. Gradually, I started noticing the effects of this practice and eventually, I quit my full-time job to take a trip to India to immerse myself in the practice at KPJAYI (currently Sharath Yoga Center). After several annual trips, in 2019, I was blessed with an Authorization Level 2 by my teacher Sharathji.
Ashtanga yoga brought me to the Netherlands and Utrecht has been my home base. I was fortunate to practice with several experienced Ashtanga teachers who lead daily Mysore classes in Utrecht. I am grateful to be part of this community and to continue my practice with a certified teacher Megan Riley, at Ashtanga Yoga Center Utrecht.
Yoga for me is one of the greatest gifts I have received, providing me with a tool to connect and center myself for a healthy mind-body relationship. The practice of Ashtanga yoga helps me establish steadiness and clarity, revealing what lies within day by day.
Along with my yoga practice, I am fascinated with the teaching of Zen Buddhism and am very grateful that I had an opportunity to visit and experience Zazen at Engakuji, one of the most important Zen Buddhism temples in Kamakura, Japan.
Chanting and meditating also enrich my spiritual journey, as well as being in nature and being with animals. My yoga journey continues, and my wish is to provide a safe space where we get nourished from this ancient practice called yoga.
